My grandson is 40 lbs and tall at 3 years old. He had outgrown his previous car seat (the harness was too tight at the longest length), but wasn't ready for a shoulder harness due to his age - we tried. He's compfortable, the seat is nice and wide and I feel safer with him in a harness. I bought one for my daughter's car as well. We both love it!
I am using this seat for my 3 1/2 year old. She is petit and often falls asleep in the car so I wanted the 5 point harness. The seat is very comfy for her and she loves the cup holder. I love the colors of the seat. It looks very modern. The only flaws I have found are the short leg strap and that the buckles are a little hard to do. They definitely take two hands to unbuckle. For the price of this seat it is a great choice.
I bought this car seat to replace my Britax Marathon for my 3 yr old son. While I loved the Britax and weight-wise, he was still well within the range, I wanted to get him a "big boy" car seat. I am a big "researcher" of stuff like this before I buy it...I read all the reviews of people who'd already bought it and reviewed any other car seat on the markey that was similiar. When the box arrived, it was a bit crushed and I thought 'Oh, no...it's going to be damaged'. Luckily, it was not. My son was so excited to get his new big boy seat. It installs very easily and is sturdy. It's quite a large seat, so if you are trying to put this into a smaller vehicle, it may not be the carseat for you.
The only thing I do not understand is why the instructions tell you not to use the LATCH tethers if you are using the shoulder seatbelt? To me, it seems like it would be safer than just setting the carseat on the seat. So, I go against the directions and LATCH the carseat down and use the shoulder seatbelt when we are just locally driving. For freeway driving I always use the harness. If I had 1 complaint about the seat...and it's minor...it would be the the armrest pads slip off all the time and I am forever digging around on the floor looking for them. I could fix this easily myself with a little velcro...so like I said, this is not a big deal. All in all, I love this seat.
The reason we bought this car seat is because of the higher weight it holds using the 5 point harness.
and when you use the seat belt as a booster it goes close to the car seat not around the arms of the car seat and the head rest is adjustable!. Being trained in car seat safety we say this one is GREAT!!.
Car seat allows me to keep my smaller 5 y.o. safer longer because of the 5 point harness weight range of up to 65lbs.
Its great for if you want to keep your child in a 5 point harness for longer then 4 years old.
My daughter complained of the crotch strap pinching her legs. So, I called Dorel group to complain and they sent me a longer crotch strap free of charge.
My son is 3, and is 42 pounds. He is big enough for a booster seat but not mature enough to leave the seatbelt belted. We'd had an Apex before but had to replace it when in an accident. There are very few seats that will harness a child over 40 pounds and I'm happy that the Apex will do that up to 65 pounds. This is money well spent. Now if they would just get the straps to not be so twisty.
Works, well.. My son had his heart set on the new LED reading lights from his old chair, and that would be a nice feature to add on these.
My 2 1/2 year old son is 39 inches tall and 44 lbs., but I am not ready to put him in a booster yet and this seat saved me from having to (or spending a fortune). He really likes it and he is comfortable. The only negitive feature would be the short croch strap, but I called and they sent me one right away and for free. Love it!
We just got a Apex 65 Booster Car Seat and I'm highly disappointed in it (we bought 2 actually so we had one for each car). Our daughter is tall for her age (28 months, 36") but only 30 lb. We were so excited to find a reasonably prices car seat that went to a higher weight/height. There is no way this seat will work for her! The crotch strap is way to short so it pinches her legs. And the shoulder harness is way to tight across her neck. It's only a 3" opening between the straps!! She keeps complaining that it is hurting her neck.
I am highly disappointed.
I bought this seat because my almost 3 year old is 40 inches and 40lbs, and not ready to be wearing just a belt. So the 5 point harness sold me. The seat is ok, but im not sure how long she will be able to be in it. The shoulder straps are already at the highest point and are down behind her shoulders. You definitely also need the longer crotch strap too. The seat is very roomy, making it difficult for her to nap in. She needs a pillow or something for her head. The seat is ok, but I would definitely have your child sit in it before you buy it.
This seat is an ideal fit for toddlers on up. My boy happens to be a husky child and we were struggling to find a five point harness that would accommodate his weight and size as well as convert into a booster seat when he was old enough. This was a consumer reports quick pick and has treated us well. We have one in each car.
This is a great option for larger children to still have a 5-point harness. I did not feel comfortable just buckling my son in a booster seat even though he was large enough for one. The seat is very spacious with a place for him to lean his head when he is tired. The cup holder is very useful. The only real complaint is that the crotch strap is a little short and therefore difficult to fasten without pinching the legs.
It is a great seat that enable you to keep children harnessed longer. It doesn't state in the manual that you need to have it in a seat position that has an adjustable head rest, but you do, because the cars headrest provides it's support.

I love this seat as does my son. He is taller than 40 inches and only 30 pounds so I didn't feel comfortable putting him into a booster seat. This is so plush and comfortable he is just loving it. It adjusts really easily and comes apart for cleaning just as easily. There are so many configurations and size adjustments anyone can be comfortable in it. The only con I would say and it is just more of a warning, is this is a large, as in wide, seat. We took it on an airplane and it spilled over into my seat, the armrest would not go down. Obviously this is fine since your child will not ever be alone but I just thought I would mention it.
PROS: Easy to install. Easy to use. My son likes to do the chest buckes himself! Wipes clean from most spills.
CONS: The fabric is a bit hot and sweaty in the summer --it feels like polyester. The covers on the arm rests slip off all of the time. My 2.5 year old cannot reach the drink holder. It has no support for a sleeping toddler. Would be nice if the arm rests folded up and down for ease of getting in and out of the seat.
Safety 1st CLAIMS this seat will fit a child up to 65 pounds....NOT SO. My daughter is barely 40 pounds at age 4 1/2 and she is already on the highest adjustments and still the middle clasp kept pinching her thighs (she is a very thin child!) She's only in the 50% for weight and height so she is well in the recommneded age and weight for this seat.....WASTE OF MONEY. Should have spent more and bought the Britax...NOT CSN Baby's fault at all.
Overall, we love this booster seat. It was definitely the best value for a car seat with harness straps for kids up to 65 lbs. The seat is very comfortable for my tall 4 year old and easy to use. The only thing to be aware of is that it is quite large and wide, so if you need to put three car seats across on one seat, you should measure first. For two in the same seat, it is fine.
My daughter really likes the seat - it's very comfortable. I like how it starts off as a 5-pt harness, then can be converted for use with an over-the-shoulder seatbelt.
Only con is that the buckle between the legs for the 5-pt is a bit short.
