I actually picked this up for my new piano in the dry Colorado clime - no babies involved - and it works like a gem. I had to check that it was working the first time I turned it on, it's so quiet. The fine mist lets you know it's working. I was somewhat wary of forking over the extra bucks for this but I'm glad I did. It runs efficiently and is large enough that I don't need to fill it more than once a day - no more than every other day if it rains.\n\nBe careful when refilling it, though, as it tends to spill.

You can feel the increase in humidity within only a couple of hours, in a small to mid-sized room. I added a filter cartridge to the tank, and there has been no noticeable residue or odor during my 4 months of ownership. It lacks a humidistat, which I feel should be included, in this price range. It is unpredictably loud (when trying to sleep near it) or quiet. The humidified air that it blows is rather cool, and it can affect the overall temperature of a small room.
