Colgate

Colgate is known for producing the highest quality crib mattresses in the country. The company has received many industry awards and is proud to be among the first members of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association. Sol Wolkin opened Colgate on March 5th 1955 with a $1500.00 loan from his brother-in-law. His first factory was in a small 4000 square foot building on Ponce de Leon Avenue near the old Ponce de Leon Stadium home of the Atlanta Crackers. The business has grown steadily since its inception. In January of 1969, Sol expanded the business into the adjacent 20,000 square foot building on Ponce de Leon Place and then in 1987, Colgate once again expanded into the last remaining attached building on Ponce de Leon Place. Then in 1993, in need of additional space and with no more buildings available on Ponce, Colgate moved into its present 60,000 square foot building located in historic Cabbagetown.
