Baby bottles are essential for formula feeding and come in a variety of styles to meet your baby’s needs. Here is a guide to help you choose the right bottle or bottle accessory for your child.





Reusable baby bottles come with straight or angled necks; the latter reduce the amount of air a baby swallows during feeding.

Disposable baby bottle systems include a plastic shell that holds disposable bags. Since the bags contract as the baby drinks, these are also good for reducing air intake.

Dr. Browns bottles, are popular with parents of babies with colic; they feature an internal vent system to virtually eliminate air bubbles.

Carrying cases: When traveling, use formula coolers and carrying cases to store bottles at a cool temperature.

Baby bottle brushes: Use long-reach bottle brushes to thoroughly clean reusable baby bottles.
Replacement nipples: Be sure to use the right nipple for the baby bottle you plan to use. Newborns typically need slower flow nipples than infants or toddlers. If your baby strains to suck, it's probably time for a faster-flow nipple.

Burp Cloths: Burp your baby after each bottle feeding and keep a supply of burp cloths handy.



Don't feed any formula without first reading instructions. Some formulas are sold ready to feed and should not have water added to them. Powdered formulas and concentrated liquid formulas need to be prepared differently.

Don't give baby vitamins or iron if you are using a prepared infant formula with iron, unless these are specifically prescribed by your doctor and you have told him or her that you are using a formula that contains iron.

Don't leave a baby bottle containing formula or anything else with your baby to calm or help him or her sleep. Your baby's teeth are developing and milk, formula, juices or other liquids that remain in your baby's mouth can lead to cavities.
